Re: Election prediction

The mini hospital that Reilly is getting the green light for, who owns this? Am certain he is just doing it for altruistic reasons though. It's a private hospital, not a public / acute one which is what's needed out here. Makes a great election sound byte that Swords is getting a hospital but the r...

Re: Show me the money

The distributor road will be an absolute disaster. It's ridiculously narrow and each junction will be controlled by traffic light. Its only success will be to generate traffic. If a candidate knocks on my door trumpeting this as a good news story, I ask him or her to confirm when they plan to start ...

Re: Turntable repair

Hi all you oldies, anyone know where i can have a 50+ year old record player repaired and tidied up, don't think it is anything major as the table turned a few weeks ago but has now stopped. Want to give it to an expert in this area and appreciate anyone who can suggest a place to go (preferably lo...

What on earth is going on with the traffic on the Peninsula?

Why is what should be a simple 5 minute journey from Portrane to Donabate taking over an hour? Why are the traffic lights on Donabate bridge frequently red for an excessive and unnecessary amount of time ? Why is the significant spot flooding along the main street which was resurfaced only six month...

Re: State of the roads in the area

Yeah the roads are in an absolute mess. The water supply is fickle and possible contaminated. We’ve had excessive construction traffic for large estates and that hospital for an intolerable period,. But has anyone noticed just how bad the traffic is from morning till night? It’s backed all the way f...

I was told that 1 person spoke with one of the parents recently after a firework was thrown near their dog, and that parent's response was that it was just a bit of fun. Funnily enough they are not outside their own homes doing this, I wonder why? My dog is very ill and suffers from a neurological ...

Fly spray is a most effective killer of those things. Spray plenty in the morning along the floor and skirting boards before going to work and find them all nice and dead when you get home. Simples!

Re: New bus service to the city Centre

if this new service takes people away from the 33D in any way, then i believe it will be the excuse needed for dublin bus to pull the service. i predict this time next year we will no longer have the 33d. hopefully though the eirebus service will be working well and will have expanded. On what basi...

Re: New bus service to the city Centre

i welcome this extra service. cant for the life of me understand why extra transport planning isnt a requirement of every planning application on this peninsula and not an afterthought. but then i remember we live in ireland. my only concern is as follows will the 33D service provided by dublin bus...

Re: Elections

I wouldn't judge a candidate on their support for the moratorium. Given the housing crisis, it's difficult for larger parties to support it as the optics aren't good when viewed nationally. and therein lies the problem. working for the party and not for the people. i couldnt care less about the par...

Re: What does Donabate / Portrane need?

We need councillors who will properly represent and advocate for us, and not spend hours on end waxing lyrical on social media about what a great person they are.

We elect PUBLIC representatives, not developer representatives or narcissists.

Re: Donabate Traffic Calming Scheme Submissions are now Open

Agree Ken, I've never been a fan of that county council and the likes of this "consultation" reminds me why. Where was the concern for traffic calming when we were being bombarded by HGV's in the last few years. Before they look at calming, why not look at footpaths and their state, and the real cau...

I wonder what sort of discount they are getting? I can't see buildiers giving away much. The only savings from the builder's side would possibly be legal fees and estate agent fees. If they're buying on the scale these guys are, they're not shelling out at the same rate your average Joe is paying, ...

Re: Semple Woods new development

Look at what has happened in Berlin for the answer. 100% correct. People say renting is what they do on the continent, and the truth is they have no choice but to do so thanks to homes being snapped up by commercial landlords. And here, our government is standing Idly by while home ownership is bei...

Re: Semple Woods new development

There is also the fact that first time buyers are struggling to get finance and can't buy the houses so will increase the demand for rental properties. But Ken, the housing agencies could negotiate a hefty discount on the purchase price in a market where builders are saying they aren't making money...

''This place is getting worse'' - Actually This place is getting much much better!!Beacuse we'll have a by-pass road in use by the end of the year meaning a huge proportion of traffic will not pass through our village. Isn't it positive that three schools are 'in the planning' for the Ballymastone ...

Re: Semple Woods new development

Couldn't agree more Vlad and it's very concerning in more ways than just community too. Almost 20% of that estate has been supposedly sold to a housing agency with the clear potential for more to go that way too. In addition, 10% is also supposed to be for social needs (i.e. county council,) One can...

Re: Large Scale Development - Activist Question

There appears to be some movement on this. According to the SPDD Facebook page, they are claiming credit for a change in the proposed ownership mix. It appears that 60% of the development will now be private ownership, 20% affordable, and the remaining 20% social. The development will progress at th...
