What does Donabate / Portrane need?

In light of the upcoming elections, I thought it might be interesting to see what posters here actually want for the area. It might prove useful for candidates to see our thoughts on what the residents of the peninsula actually want from them before they start making their promises. Personally, the ...

Genuinely surprised to hear it's still the same chef. The old menu had gorgeous seafood (and standard) platters, the chips used to be fresh rather than frozen McCain rubbish.

Re: Shoreline Hotel

We were there over the Easter weekend and they had a really crap "special" menu which was at the extremely boring end of ordinary carvery fare (burger and chips, chicken curry, sea bass etc.). Service was appalling (we had a reservation for a table in the bar which they seemingly lost and didn't man...

Which of the candidates for the council live locally? The more councillors we have from the peninsula, the more chance we have of getting services and infrastructure improved to meet the planned increase in our population.

I know Glenn Brady (Independent) lives in Portrane.

I dunno, I'd settle for mediocrity. It'd be a damn sight better than the total incompetence we're seeing at the moment.

Surely any potential buyers will also likely be covering whatever bulk-buy discount that IRES REIT managed to get themselves too... This issue is being discussed over on boards.ie too and I'd wonder if the negative publicity may affect demand from potential owner-occupiers? The houses themselves loo...

Re: Public Meeting - Planning Moratorium - Tuesday 26th

Unless they plan to run the cycle lane the full length of the Hearse Road, there's no real point in putting on onto the new distributor road. In fact, it could lead to more problems than not having one at all by encouraging more cyclists to put their lives at risk by cycling along the Hearse Road.

Re: Mud on Roads from Developments

They're based in the Top Oil service station. Do a good job too. That said, I got it done two weeks ago and within a few days of driving around the area and parking at the train station during the week, it was utterly filthy again. Think we're just going to have to get used to having dirty cars on t...

Re: Train service from Donabate to Connolly Station

RochelleD-Jones, as Batman3 says, there's plenty of parking in the station. At current usage levels it's never more than 2/3rds full. Parking costs €30 a month with Apcoa and it's far from unusual to see cars clamped so they obviously keep a close eye on it.

Our eldest is a member of the Donabate Sea Scouts and absolutely loves it! I couldn't recommend it more for kids and the leaders in Donabate are excellent. I'm not sure what the waiting list for Beavers is like, the cubs are certainly over-subscribed: our youngest has been on the waiting list for cu...

It saddens me tbh. Adrian Henchy seems to be a great local representative but should he ever make (what'd seem an inevitable) bid for a Dáil seat I couldn't give him a vote in good conscience.

Have you considered just ditching the paid for tv and getting a Saorview aerial installed for the Irish channels and running a Free to Air box off of the existing Sky Satellite dish? While legally and contractually, Sky retain ownership of the dish should you cancel your contract with them, I've nev...

Sadly, I suspect Raheny / Clontarf has a far higher number of barristers and solicitors in the area than Donabate / Portrane. We rented in that area before buying in Portrane I can think of a handful of that kind of person off the top of my head who live in Clontarf and would be happy to offer their...

My other half is a child-minder, depending on the hours you'd be looking for, expect to pay in the region of 40 - 60 per day. She'd usually do a discount for siblings.

Re: Balllymastone lands in Donabate

The 30% social allocation is what worries me... Most in the market won't want to live in an estate with over 300 social housing units. Which imo will lead to the 50% "private" properties being picked up by landlords who are happy to let them back to the council via the HAP, Long-Term Lease or RAS sc...

The council appear to be moving ahead with this, currently seeking interest from developers: https://www.facebook.com/fingalcoco/posts/1828731933849174 Personally, I find the prospect of an 1000 house estate which will end up being predominantly social housing quite worrying. Have the planning autho...

Local Saorview / Free-to-Air Satellite Provider?

I've an Edision OS Mini set-top-box that I connected to an old Sky Satellite that was left behind by the previous home-owner. It was working fine as a Free-to-Air Satellite setup until a few months ago. Not sure if the dog got at the cables behind the telly or if the storms might have realigned the ...

Yeah, the off-licence really is disappointing, especially when you consider that Supervalu actually has a really good reputation for running good off-licences (the one in The Pavillions is quite good (although in a different league size wise), for a more comparable sized off-licence the one in Kille...

@mirror it's because the reformed Junior Cycle is more suited for their use than the (older) Leaving Cert Curriculum. As a parent of one of the kids starting in September, it really feels like we're being served up on a platter to Wriggle. Given the number of students in each year, it's a chunky con...

My main gripe is the off-licence tbh. Awful selection of craft beers but just enough low cost offers to prevent a decent off-licence from operating out of one of the other retail units in the village.
