Re: Widening of road at bridge

i just want to say a huge thank you to Donabate Portrane Community Council and SPDD for looking out for the future of this town of ours. in a time when we have 2 councillors representing Donabate for the first time, we are in a worse position than ever as a town. So we have to turn to groups like th...

Re: Large Scale Development - Activist Question

it's a concern that there are people living in Donabate that have no problem with this level of social housing. There are many people who wouldnt care if all 1200 of these were social housing so long as they get what they are 'entitled' to or what they 'deserve'. these very same people don't think l...

Re: Houses Ballymastone Disaster

And for those of us who care to remember, Ballymun was a knee-jerk response to a housing crisis in the 60's caused by the tenements and poor housing. Almost 50 years after it was first built, they are still putting it right at great expense and with limited success. That's what I love about this co...

Re: Building off Hearse Road

Jaysus, surely that access point is not the permanent one? its at a ridiculous section of road after the dip in the road out of Donabate. now don't you be complaining. we need as much housing as our land can handle. we need to go from a population of 9000 to 175000. We need to have all the social h...

in defense of the people/businesses that are actually doing something about empty spaces, if anyone feels they can do a better job then go ahead and take a lease out and offer something for sale. you would surely also be complaining if that unit was left empty for months or years. do you know what t...

Re: Balllymastone lands in Donabate

30% Social Housing - that will have most, if not all people living in them unemployed. Not putting down anyone unemployed, but what chance does any of them have of obtaining a job in Donabate? Any employment will be in either Swords (transport over and back is an issue) or a job in the city centre ...

Re: Power cut

Getting ridiculous at this stage. When was the last time we went a full week without losing either water or electricity? Adding thousands more houses to already creaking infrastructure is madness. Look, powercuts happen. they do. The last one we had prior to last Fridays was June 28th. I'd be more ...

Re: Walkway to be closed, trees on Balisk common to be cut d

With a bit of a shock I was told this week that we stand to lose the last remaining trees on the Ballisk common along with the public walkway that goes into the back gate of the community centre. Why did nobody tell us about this when the application was lodged on the 29th May and the closing date ...

Re: Tilbury and New Development behind the links

something that concerns me is a possible conflict of interest in that a director of a planning company involved in many planning applications in donabate is also a pa/secretary to a councillor. if that's true, then im sure there is nothing illegal with that, and i'm not for one second saying there i...

Tilbury and New Development behind the links

so as far as i recall, planning for 150 or so units was granted to the developer some time last year. I believe 150+ objections were sent in to FCC at the time, but the development was approved very swiftly despite all the objections. Many peoioiple subsequently objected to An Bord Pleanala with ver...

Re: Trees on Beaverstown Road

Simple wire cage will not protect the trees. It's been done very late at night and it's definitely not kids!! The trees are been broken by an adult who appears to have a gruge against society!! Unfortunately the CCTV on the AstroTurf football pitches do not work!! So not a chance there!! Also think...

Re: Up in smoke

So 6 months on. I believe some (or all) of the people involved were caught but I can only presume that no jail time has or will be seen, such is the nature of our system. Coincidently (or not) we are seeing an increase in anti-social behaviour again in the last couple of weeks. I hadn't seen the guy...

Thanks for the video, and for the work you're doing to fight for what should be the obvious, but unfortunately isn't. An article in todays Independent shows that Fingal Co. Co. have been tasked by the government to build 408 social houses in 2018. Anyone know what happens if they don't hit this targ...

Re: Severe Lack of School Places

Try not to panic, remember that many parents put their children's names down in both schools so there will be a good many duplicate names on those waiting lists. it's not panic though. the girls school did a piece of work that says 272 additional school places are required at the moment. This has n...

the anti-social behaviour isnt bad at all currently. i think we are probably on the lower scale of things. i feel that's because we have a really good community. going forward though things could change. population of 20,000+ with no garda station. significant number of social housing beiung built, ...

Re: Houses Ballymastone Disaster

ive said it before. Donabate is a great place to live. I wouldn't live anywhere else as it happens. However, if I was buying a place now for the future, I wouldn't buy in Donabate. I believe it will become a town like the ones you hear a lot about on the news, in the next 10 to 15 years. The plan is...

Severe Lack of School Places

saw something yesterday that shows that for the 2018 September schools intake, Educate together already has 120 names on the waiting list. They take in 56 children into Junior Infants but have 176 names down. Already they have 159 for 2019 and 131 for 2020. The girls school take in 60 but have 81 na...

it's clear (to me anyway) that the pomp and ceremony around the distributor road work starting before Christmas was just an exercise in spin. The only thing that has happened is a sign gone up. We wont see that road complete before 2022. come back to this post when that happens to prove i'm right :)...

realistically nobody living outside of Donabate gives a rats about Donabate. We are tucked away on our own peninsula so that when it does turn into Darndale part 2 as someone mentioned, we are so far tucked away from the rest of Fingal that it will be ok. i normally dont go with the whole sensationa...

Re: Donabate Relief Road - €15m Investment

Yes i agree, this worries me greatly. I cannot see how this is good long term. 1,000 mixed tenure so 50% social and affordable, a mini ghetto within donabate. Zero thoughts or respect given to the residents who worked hard to own their houses. When you think of the social problems within balbriggan...

i dont think this thread is being alarmist. People are genuinely concerned at what's happening in this wonderful town. There are some people who would rather you didn't talk about the bad stuff happening though. I'd love to know why they want it swept under the carpet? At a completely wild guess i'd...
