Re: New Primary School Donabate 2020

A gaelscoil would be a great option.

Having a second language at an early age is a great head start for kids and makes it easier to learn other languages later.

My daughter was at a friends party where there was an exotic pet entertainer. Kids loved it. Educational as well, and you’ll be striking a blow for feminism!

Here’s one...

Re: Politicians: Hot or Not?

All the best to the Palestinians and the Israelis, but I'm more concerned about Fine Gael focussing on a proper transport strategy for our east coast than the middle east. Proper housing planning also. It's a big world out there, and you can take your pick of global issues - but it's a distraction w...

Re: Politicians: Hot or Not?

Yeah, the speaker told her to wait her turn for speaking and she pulled a Serena Williams on him. Well, we had the chance to abolish the Senate, and the wise people of Ireland voted to keep it. One good thing about increased populated in Donabate is that it should give us more pull in getting politi...

Yep, can't argue with that.

If Farrell goes, then I'll be happy. Arrogant git with no obvious skills.

Clifford-Lee is a numpty, but she will get a seat for the reasons you outline.

Re: Widening of road at bridge

Well said aoifey. Accountability is non existent. Complete lack of transparency on how and why this tender went awry. The hexagonal Seabees on Portrane beach are clearly designed to be installed together seemlessley, but they were just dumped on the beach. The road widening was allowed to proceed wh...

Re: Eir TV and broadband

Be careful before signing up for the Eir broadband. Only parts of Donabate are connected to the high speed fibre. E.g. might be on the Portrane road, but not estates off it.

Ensure your house is connected or you’ll be getting 20mps Max.

Re: Beaverstown golf club

Balcarrick Golf Club does a nice homely dinner selection, with a kitchen run by a nice friendly lady.

Coeliacs might be catered for... but you’ll have to bring a doctor’s note.

I personally think Rahillion is about 10-20 percent overpriced.

Looks for sales in places like the Links which are selling closer to 400k and closer to the station.

Re: New Local Area Plan 2014-2020

The village is on a train line, which always ends up adding value to an area in the end. Particularly when they get around to bringing the Dart northwards. We have had a lot of concerns about development plans in the area. They have eased somewhat with a commitment to sustainable development. Luckil...

Re: New Local Area Plan 2014-2020

The great thing about capitalism is that left alone, it feeds itself. If there's money to be made, it'll be made. Up until recently, SuperValu was adequate for the area. Lately though, I'm finding common items being out of stock more and more. Being a monopoly, the management don't feel the need to ...

Two Yolks

So, I've been getting the Very Large Eggs in Supervalu recently and every other egg I crack seems to have two yolks.

Anyone else having this experience? Or is it some sort of sign that I should be doing the Euromillions?

Re: Houses Ballymastone Disaster

Social housing should be 10% maximum. That would cover those completely unable to generate income - i.e. work. Many people who are given things for free don't respect it. You get social issues. Take a walk around Darndale of an evening and let me know how it goes. Affordable housing is fine for me. ...

Re: Large Scale Development - Activist Question

I disagree Austy. 100 units per year is a very sensible approach. No ghost estates in the Dublin region. I still question the need for 20% social now that we are back to full employment in the economy. 10% should cover local people with desperate needs. I fully support affordable housing as there ar...

A more sensible amount of social housing? 100 units per year to allow infrastructure ? Is this Ireland or have I been transferred to a parallel universe?

Very positive.

... although 30% affordable, 10% social would be optimal.

Yeah, a poster on SPDD Facebook helped with the names who voted against.

Perhaps check yourself. They take the vote around the 43rd minute.

Well, I see on the SPDD Facebook page that we got a first little victory today. A motion was passed that we would be consulted. 10 Councillors for, 5 against. Remember the 5 against at the next election. Maybe fire them an email and say hi. According to one of the comments, the 5 against were: Cllr....

Indeed sleepy. It is mostly marshland in Ballymastone. I’m sure there are all sorts of interesting flowers, fauna and insects that need protecting. It’s the reason some prime land near Booterstown has never been developed. As well as something or other in Raheny. Definitely one to look at. However, ...

Re: Large Scale Development - Activist Question

I'd rather not make this thread about the pros and cons of social housing Hatter. It's about a proper ratio of housing. The Local Area Plan designated something like 20% to social and affordable housing - and for a good reason. Social housing should be available in all areas - 20% across Swords, Mal...
