Vodafone Home Broadband

Post by Harry Byrne » 11 Feb 2013, 15:59

Having been happy with Vodafone broadband for a while its gone quite sluggish. Streaming is poor for example. They have worked through the possible remedies with me (its your wifi, its your router, its your phone, its your splitter, its your eircom cable, its interference from your toaster etc) but I think its .. Vodafone. Not getting any more than 2mb download and an upload of about 50k. 1990's speeds.

Anybody else on Vodafone, How are you getting on?

My provision is 8mb
I'm testing at http://www.speedtest.net/

Ta.

ps. feel free to move the post if it fits better elsewhere.

I'm with Vodafone and I just got 7mb on speedtest.net.

I'd have to say that I've been very happy with them since they took over from BT Ireland. Only once has there been a problem which they sorted within a day or so with a visit to the exchange to reset something.

Thanks Ann. At least I know the service does run to 7mb. I'll be back on to them tonight.

Good point Mr - my experience is VF are unwilling to do full troubleshooting so I'll ask around.

Kills you to not get what you pay for.

We were eir-con. Paid for 8 and only got 2. Router required firmware upgrade. Fair play for following up. I think most of them hope people never ask.

Sky are offering DSL Broadband over the Eircom network so users will still encounter the same problems when it comes to maintenance.

I've noticed vodafone has been cak for the last few weeks.

suppose the fact that even the cat has an ipad doesnt help, but even when noone in house and me WFH, it can be dire.

like dial up some times. have just switched to Sky as have tv with them/on demand. signed up yday so due in a few weeks.

they are offering 16.6 to be 8 i am on with VF for a few quid less. so even if we get half that, itll be twice the current yokie.

have to go now , the hampsters 3d HD weblink to Guatemala has gone down, live streaming 24x7.

You won't get 16Mb. I'm with Irish Broadband and was on 12Mb (getting 9Mb in reality). However, it was dropping so they reduced me to 8Mb (getting 7) and it's more stable.

I think we're too far away from the exchange to get the high speeds over DSL. Roll-on Eircom's digital network.

Have you tried www.speedtest.net to check your upload and download speeds?

Ken.

Anyone tried Three for broadband?

http://www.three.ie/products_services/b ... dband.html

Cheaper than the landline options but I suspect you get what you pay for...

A quick perusal of Boards.ie and it seems three broadband has its problems.

Looking at DigWeb now instead. They seem to be cheaper than Vodafone, Sky, Eircom for comparable products across the board. Where is the catch this time?

Know how you feel Pat. When we got wireless first it was just my phone and an Xbox on it. Now there are two iPads, three Xboxes, two laptops, a Microsoft Surface and 3 phones. Thankfully there are no limits in terms of data.

If it ever goes down, the kids have a fit. You'd swear the oxygen supply was cut off.
