Eir TV and broadband

Post by Bawner » 26 Nov 2018, 20:56

Eir seem to have a decent promotion for broadband and TV. Does anyone have eir tv and is it any good? I mean is reception ok, does it freeze or jam up if using tv and internet?

We had it up to about year ago. It's ok, but HD channels are very limited and cost extra. They also only allow you to have one box per house as more than that will likely cause lag.

Basically not a patch on Sky, but priced cheaper so depends on what you're looking for. Sky also allow up to 3 boxes with SkyQ which is good if you want to the ability to watch different channels on different TVs.

Ken.

Thanks Ken.

Paying 50-60 a month for sky tv and same again for vodafone broadband. Looking at consolidating. Most of what we watch is free to air and would have done that a while ago but the sky+ box and easy recording is just so handy. Rarely watch anything live anymore, especially virgin with its 5 minute ads.

Sky do deals with broadband also. Maybe worth taking a look at the possibility of consolidating with them.

Until a couple of years ago I had a landline with Eir, mobiles with vodafone, broadband with Eir and TV with Sky. Getting them all with Eir saved me almost 80 euro per month. (That figure could change of course depending on whether you're getting sport and movie packages) The reception is absolutely fine and there was an offer for an extra box (I think for an extra €5 per week) to watch a second TV. I didn't bother getting it but there didn't seem to be any issue with it.

Eir TV doesn't have quite as many channels as Sky but to be honest I probably didn't watch 95% of the Sky channels anyway. The only channel I can't get now that I actually miss is Sky Atlantic. There's no UTV on Eir either although a lot of their programmes are on Virgin Media anyway.

Cheers.

They're offering 100mb broadband non peak calls and tv for €45 a month for 12 months. €10pm extra for all calls. Multiroom is 5pm per room up to 2 rooms.

With Eir up until this January. Had a deal with them through Metoer for TV, Wifi, landline and mobile for €96. That included all EIR & BT Sports channels. I got this by walking into a metoer store, they didn't advertise it online. Reception is ok, not stellar but not bad at all.

Anyone know anything about virgin media as a broadband option?, I have my broadband with 3 and it is awful all the time when I do speedtests 1.39 mbps.

I also have my house phone with them seems fine the few times a month it is used.

I have sky incl. sports for 25 years never got as much as a call or offer so time to kick them out over €100/month as long as I can remember, slow learner me :-)

If you ever expect to need a customer service call answered don’t go with eir. Absolute nightmare with moving away from them. Average wait time is 25 minutes. Longest I experienced was 90 minutes. Cheaper for a reason. Awful !

Be careful before signing up for the Eir broadband. Only parts of Donabate are connected to the high speed fibre. E.g. might be on the Portrane road, but not estates off it.

Ensure your house is connected or you’ll be getting 20mps Max.

Had Eir TV & BB for a few weeks 2 years ago, BB was fine but TV would pixelate at times making it unwatchable. Went back to Sky TV and BB but now have Sky TV and Eir BB works fine for us as Mrs Blowin gets her rugby I get 85MBs

I just got rid of Virgin broadband, €55 a month, as it constantly disconnects and Vodafone for my mobile €45 a month!! Went with Eir for my mobile and broadband and it is now €45!! Speeds are a constant 38mbps regardless of how many devices are being used. Customer service is awful at the moment but once everything is up and running you shouldn't really need to be contacting them. Saving €55 a month is a no brainer!!

Thanks Jed. Exactly why I'm looking. I missef the Eir black Friday deal but gives ne chance to check others. Pity I'm with sky as they have super deal fir new customers doing bundle. Vodafone and virgim doing good deals too. I'm just sifting through what each has (or more importantly has not!). Eir sport would be handy for the rugby.

Have you considered just ditching the paid for tv and getting a Saorview aerial installed for the Irish channels and running a Free to Air box off of the existing Sky Satellite dish? While legally and contractually, Sky retain ownership of the dish should you cancel your contract with them, I've never actually heard of them removing one!

Just wondering if anyone has noticed a big degradation in Eir mobile service in the last 3-4 weeks?

Well I got eir broadband on Friday but still waiting for landline to port over. Just got eir mobile from carphone warehouse. Samsung A9 and eir essential for 30 a month. Happy with that as had to get a phone anyway.
