Solar Panels

Post by Jed » 01 Oct 2019, 17:24

Anyone got solar panels and would you recommend them? A guy from Sallis Renewables knocking on doors in the area and I'd be interested in getting them. How hot does the water be? And also does it really make a difference to your electricity bill if you have the battery storage system installed? Thanks in advance.

Got them in back in April from the energy centre. http://www.energycentre.ie/. Great job so far.
A sunny day will heat the water to about 60 degrees which is plenty for a hot shower. It doesn't matter how hot the day is, any sun at all will heat up the water a bit and if needs be this can be topped up by turning on the boiler for about 10 mins. I would recommend buying a new condensing boiler for maximum efficiency. A new water cylinder will also be needed. We got about 30% off with the home renovation scheme but I'm not sure if that has been continued.

I wonder what the ROI is? If it's into the €1,000s to install them, I gather it would take a long time to claw back the outlay in savings on electricity/gas.

Ken.
